March Reading

Okay, I know that technically March isn't over until the end of today but I don't feel like counting pages to the book I'm about to start once this post is over, so it's being tacked to the April reading list. The first couple of weeks were harsh. I didn't read much, mostly because Joe had just gotten home and I would much rather spend time with him then reading. Then I read some I'd never read before, and also read some that I read before. It's been fun and eclectic. Looking forward to next month. . . Here's hoping for steadier reading next month.

**If you ever have questions on anything I read, no matter what it is, just let me know. Oh yeah, and anyone interested in doing a book club? If you live close we can do it at my house, but if you live far away maybe we can all do it online. We can even set up our own blog were we all post and comment on each others reading. Just a thought, I would have to hammer out the logistics but it would definitely be fun and doable.

The Historian (finished it) -- 292
Angels and Demons -- 596
Son of a Witch --407
Power of Babel (only half way through this one) --166
Twilight -- 498
New Moon -- 563
Eclipse -- 629
Breaking Dawn -- 756
Fablehaven (Book 1) -- 351

Total for March -- 4258
Total for 2009 -- 10588

California

Joe and I went to the Redwood National Forest this past week. It was so much fun. My mom flew out from Illinois and stayed with our kids and we hit the road last Wednesday. One night in Reno and then to Crescent City, CA. We were there only two days but it was so much fun--another night in Reno, and we got home Monday night.

This was taken from a bridge over the road. We didn't actually hike this trail but one down the road. It was beautiful. That first day there was absolutely perfect weather. Second day, it was cloudy but alright in the morning but come afternoon, it started raining and didn't stop. Oh well, it was still so beautiful and so nice to be near the ocean and in the trees. I hadn't realized just how much I missed it all until I was there. I so totally didn't want to come back to Utah--to my kids, yes, but Utah no.
First beach we went to. It was quite a few stairs down and quite a few back up, but it was beautiful. There were some seals out on the rocks at this one so that was quite cool.
I swear, only decent picture of me, because I had to keep pulling my hair back. It was very windy and I kept ending up with a mouth full of hair, so I had to pull it back which just isn't the most flattering of looks for me.
These were the stairs. Only one section. It was so beautiful and green and all these flowers and trees. Took lots of pictures of both for the kids--if you know them, you understand why.
This is us hiking through the Redwoods. We made sure to take lots of tree pictures for Hyrum. It was absolutely beautiful.

St. George

Since Hyrum had a four day weekend, we opted for a short family trip to St. George and Zion's National Park. Wish we could have stayed longer than our time and finances would allow, but we sure had fun with the time allotted us.

Friday we spent at Zion's. We hiked one trail and did a lot of driving. We wanted to do another hike but time and children didn't allow a second. Oh well. Next time and with more time. Gotta go back when it's a bit warmer anyway so Hyrum can finish his Jr. Ranger Badge.

Me carrying Dan. Had to lean forward funny so that he was actually in the picture. Emma stuck with me. She was scared of the height and the water. We hiked up to Weeping Rock. She loved it once we got up there because the rock was crying on her.
Joe toted Porter and we tried to keep Hyrum in check. He actually took off on us on the way down and got into BIG trouble. They also enjoyed the crying rocks.
Danny has become VERY independent. He wants to walk everywhere. However, he does not want to hold our hands so we tried the monkey, which he enjoyed. Gave him a bit more freedom and then he could "go walk" as he says. He was "go walk" constantly. Nutter. He was so mad at me when I had to put him in the backpack to hike. He wanted to "go walk".
We also visited with Naomi and Nate (Naomi is Joe's sister, and Nate be her hubby). The kids had fun playing football with Dad and Aunt Oni.
Emma chilling with Uncle Nate but still playing with everyone else. Her styling Pink Panther sunglasses make the great accessory.
I was just trying to keep Dan from "go walk" again.
Hyrum finally caught the ball. He can throw with the best of them, but has butterfingers.
No one come between the 15 month old and his IPod. Well, it's his Dad's and he's rocking out to The Killers. He sure loves that IPod. He kept getting really mad whenever he would loose one of the earbuds.
Porter had to strut about in Uncle Nate's Cornhusker's hat.
Emma getting tickled but Aunt Naomi.

We had a great visit with family and fun at the park. So much warmer down there, and I totally wanted to stay, especially as we came north and hit a bad snow storm. So unfair. Oh well, welcome to Utah.

Homecoming

Yes, I know I'm a putz when it comes to getting my blog updated. Joe came home on Friday the 27th of February. His flight was suppose to come in at 6:45 a.m. in Salt Lake. Yup, I had to be up at 3:30 in the morning to get us all ready. We set it up so we would be early, since we were told they usually arrive early. Got there at 6:20, only to find that they had come in at 6:00. Didn't get to see him come off the plane, which totally sucked, but at least we found him, and he's home.
One very happy and tired family. Porter was actually scared of his dad. He wouldn't go anywhere near him. Dan was like "who the freak are you, you sound familiar, you look familiar, but not so sure." He would get pretty much lethargic whenever daddy held him, but at least he let him hold him. Porter was like "no freaking way are you touching me." Emma and Hyrum were so excited, they wouldn't leave dad alone.
Daddy with his babies. Porter wouldn't stand near him, so to get him in the picture I had to put him as far away from dad as possible.
Porter holding mommy's rose.
Dan trying not to fall asleep.
Emma was so happy daddy gave her a rose too. Hyrum and Emma so happy daddy is finally home.

We've been trying to have fun and relax too ever since he got home. Just trying to readjust. Porter is fine with Dad now. It only took a few hours for him to warm up. Just got back from a family vaca to St. George, which I'll post later today or tomorrow. Next week, Joe and I are going to California for our little vaca together--going to the Redwood National Forest. Totally excited, but not letting the kids know exactly where we are going because especially Hyrum would be very jealous. It will be fun. Joe and I never really got a honeymoon, so we'll count this as 8 years later. . . My GREAT, WONDERFUL Mom is flying out to stay the week with our children. Can't thank her enough for that one. Just hoping they don't kill her.

***If you are reading this, all the way through, you're either family or someone really special in my life, so if you are around starting this Wednesday (the 11th), check up on my mom and see if she needs any help.
